In 2018 our donation funded school meal programmes in Sri Lanka.  The country has one of the world’s highest levels of moderate acute malnutrition – an increasing trend of thinness among primary school aged children, which was 30 per cent in 2018 – in addition to the prevalence of anaemia which affects the growth and development of young people.

“The support that The Earth Group is giving to school children in Sri Lanka goes a long way – it not only provides school meals that tackle immediate hunger but also helps us introduce, for the first time, needed fortificants that give the meals a critical nutritional boost,” said Brenda Barton, WFP’s Country Director in Sri Lanka. “This is very important because one in three school children in Sri Lanka are too thin for their age, and one in ten are anaemic. This means that they lack energy and struggle to focus on their studies.”
