Kenya, Nadapal, Turkana 1st March 2012

St. Bakanja Nadapal Primary School, in Turkana district in north-western Kenya.

St. Bakanja is one of the schools where students benefit from the World Food Programme’s (WFP) school meals programme, which is supported by donors including the European Union. Through programme, WFP is providing school meals to about 630,000 children, mainly in the northern arid districts of Kenya but also in the slums of Nairobi. School meals provide an essential safety net for children from poor families and provide an incentive to keep them in school. Without the school meal, most of them would have to work in order to assist in putting food on the family table.
